Volunteer Jobs:

Installation & Dismantling

Assistance with both interior and exterior Installation is needed. On the interior, electronics need to be set up, namely the equipment that produces the eyes, mouth, and voice. Basic knowledge of audio and video equipment is a plus. Exterior installation depends very much upon the house. If applicable, lights will be installed along the roofline. This involves the use of ladders, each ladder requires two people – one for climbing and the other for spotting. Good candidates for climbing should possess strong balance, coordination, apt muscles, and a comfort with heights. At most, two ladders will be simultaneously in use. Also, the pedestal on which passing partygoers speak to Homie needs to be positioned and its microphone installed. The Dismantling process will be much like that of the installation, just in reverse.

Preparations

Homie's Homies. Volunteer in Ann Arbor, spring 2005.In addition to setting up the equipment, other materials need to be organized prior to the performance. A few members of Homie's Homies will focus on such Preparations as organizing enough promotional material for distribution, making PB&J sandwiches (for passers-by), arranging the stand for food, T-shirt sales, and donation collections.

Local Promotions

For each site, the local neighborhood, downtown area, and nearby party scenes need visiting to promote Homie's presence and his need of advice. A special squad of Homie's Homies needs to make Promotions their main objective. This involves handing out flyers and other promotional material before and during the performance. If parties are not held in the general area of the performance, the Promotion squad is crucial in increasing public awareness.

Crowd Control

During the performance, a group of Homie's Homies will focus on Crowd Control, and need to be present in the immediate surroundings of the performance to act out the following: Firstly, to answer any questions about the performance. The audience most likely will have a lot to ask; Secondly, to watch over the environment, and to suppress any mischief or belligerent acts towards the house, visitors, or the equipment; Thirdly, to hand out promotional material (flyers, buttons) and to provide food and drinks; Forthly, to actively sell T-shirts and collect donations.

Documentation

Documenters are needed to capture as much of Homie and the audience in action as possible. The footage will be used to update our website and to increase the public awareness of Homie the House. Also, it helps to evaluate the effect that House Confessions has on the community. Anyone that has a good digital camera and/or Mini-DV video camcorder, and is willing to help shoot or lend the equipment would prove to be considerably helpful.

All volunteers will receive a complimentary Homie's Homies t-shirt for their time and effort in making this installation come to life.
